SUMMARY:Essentials of Field Management\, Unit 3: Finishes and Building Systems - July 13\, 15\, 20\, 22\, 27
DESCRIPTION:Overview Unit 3: Finishes and Building Systems\n\nIn this unit\, students will learn about major scopes of building systems\, including HVAC\, plumbing and MEP as well as fire sprinklers\, alarms\, and smoke control. Additionally\, the intricacies of specialty building types\, including healthcare facilities\, kitchen and labs will be covered. The installation of tile\, stone and flooring finishes will conclude this instruction.\n\n \n\nSession 1: HVAC\, Plumbing and MEP\n\nHVAC\n\nThe purpose of this session is to introduce students to the various types of HVAC systems. Common HVAC systems are explained\, as well as the types of projects that would utilize that system. Additionally\, variations of source equipment and the pros and cons for each system are discussed.\n\n \n\nPlumbing \n\nStudents will be introduced to the intricacies of plumbing. They are provided with information on plumbing materials and fixtures\, as well as backflow prevention techniques. Additionally\, they will go over hot water requirements and receive an introduction to waste\, vent\, and storm systems.\n\n \n\n \n\nSession 2: Fire Sprinklers\, Fire Alarms\, and Smoke Control\n\nFire Sprinklers\n\nThis session provides students with an overview of building fire sprinkler systems and the ability to scope out each system for its intended use. Students will learn about the different components of the system\, different types of systems\, and testing the system.\n\n \n\nFire Alarms and Smoke Control\n\nStudents will receive an overview of building systems\, fire alarms\, and smoke control. Instruction is this session will give the student the ability to scope out each system for its intended use.\n\n \n\nSession 3: Specialty: Kitchens\, Laundries\, Science Labs\, Bathrooms\n\nKitchens and Laundries\n\nStudents will receive an overview of special equipment and coordination required for kitchen\, laundries and other specialty projects. Emphasis will be in identifying where to find the information needed and the focus necessary to minimize rework and to accomplish the job efficiently.\n\n \n\nScience Laboratories\n\nStudents will learn about how to manage science laboratory projects. Primarily students will focus on fume hoods and considerations for the installation of fume hoods in projects.\n\n \n\nToilet\, Bath\, Gym\, FRP\n\nToilet & Bath\, Gym\, and FRP instruction will give students specific information about the proper installation of products according to product type\, purpose\, and ADA compliance requirements.\n\n \n\n \n\nSession 4: Healthcare Facilities and Infection Control \n\nHealthcare Facilities\n\nIn this session\, students will learn about the special considerations for projects involving medical gas. Specifically\, students will learn about the different types of med-gas\, med-gas monitoring systems\, med-gas design and procurement\, med-gas scheduling and installation and the commissioning and certification process for med-gas systems.\n\n \n\nInfection Control\n\nStudents will be provided with key considerations when engaged in a project focused on infection prevention. Instruction will focus on Infection Control awareness\, risk assessments\, materials and equipment\, and other key considerations for infection prevention and awareness.\n\n \n\nSession 5: Tile & Stone\, Flooring Finishes \n\nInstruction will focus on key factors that essentially apply to every floor covering and finish commonly used in the industry\, including polished concrete\, terrazzo\, tile\, wood\, engineer\, VCT\, vinyl\, resinous\, and carpet.
